This is the main distribution site for all my emulator ports for the Acorn platform. The new design of the site has been enforced by the sheer of number of emulators, for which I have to thank the emulator authors on other platforms, who have all been very helpful and kind.
All ports are covered and each has info on the current release (as well as latest Acorn release version). Each emulator has associated screenshots and links (well soon). My aim is to make emulation a bit more accessible for the average user... so if you have any difficulty with using this site feel free to drop me an email.
Since emulators aren't the only things in life (shock) I have also ported a superb graphic adventure interpreter. It is for Sierra adventure games - with this interpreter you can play Space Quest natively on your Acorn! How cool is that ? Added to this there is also a port of ScummVM, which allows you to play LucasArts adventures natively. For the first time you can play Monkey Island 1, 2, Day of the Tentacle and others without having to use a PC or PC emulation!
Feel free to place comments/requests/problems on the message board. This should hopefully prove to be a useful feature.
This site will probably become more and more Cineroma oriented as this is where all my RISC OS based focus is atm. Some of the other stuff is due at least one more update, but that won't occur until Cineroma is at least out. Note that Cineroma is not publically available yet, it is in a private beta phase.

12th December 2004
- Just a quick heads up for those that were worried after the last update. Unsurprisingly I managed to find a new job (those that know me know that I wasn't exactly worried) and have been settling in. Once I've got used to the times of work - and the longer travel times... I'll get back up to speed with my little projects. But at least I get to 'Challenge Everything' at work :-)
- As an aside I've nearly sorted a couple of other quick projects. They should be polished off rsn.
30th October 2004
- Well now its all over for Argonaut as it was - Argonaut Edgware was the heart and soul, whatevers left will not be the same. I feel so sorry for everyone and I just hope that people can find the jobs they so richly deserve. Especially since we all got so screwed over financially at the end - 6 days pay for a months work and the rest claimed off the government. That basically is a kick in the teeth to people that have put their full energy into a company and on many occasions did way more than they were asked. I personally see it as a positive, a chance to branch out and grow in a new place.
- What this means for Cineroma is that I will firstly assure my financial security and secondly if I have free time I will work on my home projects. So don't expect 24/7 Cineroma work coz I think ensuring I can live is far more important.
16th October 2004
- I'm depressed, hugely depressed. I think this link says it all
- 50% of people made redundant, people I've worked with for the last 6 years. It totally sucks :-(
6th June 2004
- Another quick and belated update
- OK I know not much news, seemingly not much activity. Really this represents the fact that I've essentially been living at work, well as near as dammit. The game should be finished in a few weeks and I'm intending to use a good portion of my hard earned free time to sort out Cineroma. I don't think alot of people realise that I'm working 13+hours a day, at least 6 days a
week. Its very very draining and when that work is doing coding one of the last things on my mind is to come home and spend x hours working on a home project. Sure I enjoy working on Cineroma, but not during such hectic periods. Other things must take priority during my free time when it is so short. I do hope you can all appreciate that.
- If you're wondering why I don't just release what I have... well if I release it I'll have to support it. Support takes up time, I don't have time and thus I wouldn't be able to support it. Which really wouldn't be much good, also I'd rather get it in a state I'm happy with... and that will require time.
- Progress has been made since the last proper update. The key points are :
- Added 4XM, CIN, DV, MPEG, SFD, NuppelVideo, PVA, Real Audio, WC3, AUD, and other demuxers
- Added Indeo 3, SVQ3, WMV8, AAC, Sorenson Spark and other codecs
- Added hardware overlay support for nVidia cards
- Fixed point AC3 & WMA decoding
- Massively improved AVI & MOV demuxers
- Various UI things such as vizualizations, OSD, controls (seeking)
- Portions of code rewritten for XScale and normal ARM.
- The bulk of remaining work is tidying stuff up, making sure things work without overlay support, adding a UI and weeding out some annoying bugs.
- The updated the docs reflect the changes :
- You can get a list of supported stuff here
- The FAQ that beta testers get is available here
- If you have any questions feel free to email me (my address is above).
5th October 2003:
- A quick belated flu ridden (insert cough, splutter, sniff,...) update.
- Added aged ScummVM source (at request of ScummVM developers). This is based of the old 0.1.0 source code and IMHO isn't much use for a newer build, but someone may find it interesting. When I get some time in the near future I will look towards getting a bang up to date version of this sorted out.
- As for Cineroma... progress has been slow and most info can be gleaned from the Drobe article from a while back. I will do a proper update, a) when I feel better and b) have exciting developments to talk about. I know its been a long time.
16th December 2002:
- Update:
- Unfortunately it's been a bit of a quiet month - deadlines at work... :-(
- Anyhow I have built a 32bit compliant version of Cineroma and those beta testers with Iyonix machines have reported at least a 2x speed increase. I would imagine that when UDMA is working that speed should improve further. This means that most high res DivX movies approach full speed. Some of the more complex ones are still slow. However the code is still unoptimized and there is definate room for improvement (esp if the 2d acceleration on the new machines can be used).
- Other than that there has been no significant Cineroma progress. I am hopeful that I will get a chance to sort out some key features in the coming weeks. Hopefully leading to a public release...
- As for my other apps becoming 32bit compatible... this will happen as and when I get time (I certainly want to get a bang up to date ScummVM port
sorted out). In terms of freeware apps Cineroma is my priority.
